Hospitality

GLA has accomplished its hospitality outreach throughout the northeastern United States, as well as selected locations throughout Egypt. The opportunity to work on resorts and residential compounds in the Middle East has broadened our outlook, taught us to work successfully within diverse cultures and has established GLA as an active participant in world class projects at home and abroad.

GLA’s successful completion of resorts, water parks and large-scale water features has established our reputation for creativity that is generating exciting new prospects for the firm. The experience gained on our hospitality projects is translating into a full appreciation of how to meet the demands of this industry.

Ritz-Carlton Resort

GLA design for this forty-plus acre Ritz Carlton Resort was completed in 2000. Working closely with overall design architects DiLeonardo International, GLA designed all green areas, hardscaping and water features. Site planning for this 350-room hotel is handicapped accessible. The lighting design creates an understated ambiance for relaxing and strolling in the soft Sinai nights.

Mirage City Resort

Mirage City Golf Course and Resort in New Cairo, Egypt boasts a water park designed by Gates, Leighton & Associates, Inc. This hotel amenity features a wave pool, kiddy play area, waterfalls, grotto and a swimming lagoon with a sandy beach. GLA was overall design manager for The Beach and the construction documents were prepared in our Cairo office.

Casinos & Hotel

Our casino and hotel clients require high-impact landscapes that compliment their offerings. GLA delivers hotel and casino landscapes that win praise for density, beauty, uniqueness and their overall memorable quality. Because landscapes for hospitality projects are so intrinsically connected to their visitors’ total experience, GLA responds to our clients’ demands with timelines, design strength and locally implemented constructability. In addition, GLA ensures that long-term maintenance techniques are understood, cost effective and sustainable.

Villas

Luxurious villas bring opportunities for GLA to provide extraordinary designs, superior materials, expressive artisanship and superior venues for living and entertaining. GLA’s international residential clients understand the value of landscape architecture and are willing to import our expertise for that ‘one-of-a-kind” garden. GLA’s villa gardens always answer to the programmatic needs of our clients while introducing fresh planning and design ideas to create truly memorable landscape experiences.

Spruce Point Inn

Over the last fifteen years the historic Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Maine has undergone major improvements to update its guest facilities including extensive landscaping and site improvements. GLA has been involved continuously with both site planning and landscape design for all site phases that provided complete expansion of wedding and conference venues along with new guest accommodations. Additional phases included pool upgrades, the spa’s outdoor “Quiet Room”, design for new terraces and decks and an extensive trail system through the coastal Maine landscape.

Hyatt Regency Newport

Since 2009 GLA has been working with the Davidson Hotel Group, design managers for the Hyatt Regency Newport, to reinvent outdoor guest accommodations. The poolside features, including a restaurant, were designed and built in 2010. The off-season construction window of 2011 and the proposed improvements for 2012 include a seaside walkway connecting to the southwest overlook lawn where weddings and other functions will take place. Throughout the design process GLA has maximized the value of the available outdoor space by working closely with the Davidson Hotel team programming the activities that engage and promote increased use by guests and visitors.

Avenue of the Arts

GLA presented a concept in 1995 for the complete overhaul of a short but critical street that now serves as the major entrance to both the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel and the historic Vets Auditorium. GLA continued this effort in 2005 designing the multi-use streetscape, which has been richly detailed to compliment the two historic structures, and provides plaza space for special events, opening nights and the valet service at the hotel. Extensive coordination with the State Department of Transportation and the City of Providence allowed GLA to maximize the use of the space available in designing a fitting “arrival experience” to a prominent landmark in the shadow of the Rhode Island Statehouse.

Providence Performing Arts Center

When streetscape renovations on Weybosset Street are completed in 2012 the expanded sidewalk areas and their amenities will be accommodating the successful reincarnation of the Providence Performance of the Arts Center (PPAC). PPAC is a major draw for visitors to downtown Providence and GLA has been privileged to work alongside Beta Engineering in providing and outstanding streetscape that has now been renamed PPAC square. The design details accommodate both the day-to-day use as well as the swell of people who gather on opening nights. The richness of materials and lighting will illuminate the street as a beacon for fun and entertainment.
